Undertone The colour ledger, kept honestly

The True Summer Palette

The middle of the Summer family: cool in undertone, medium in depth, soft in chroma, and silver by convention.

Take Summer’s cool, softened colouring and set the depth dial to the middle: that is True Summer. Undertone cool, depth medium, chroma soft — the colours are neither pale nor dark, and none of them shout. Some schools call this season Cool Summer, which names the same combination from a different angle. Silver is the conventional metal here.

The palette

The verified list runs: dusty rose, rose pink, mauve, raspberry and soft plum on the pink-to-plum side; blue-grey, slate blue, denim blue and soft teal on the blue side. The pattern is visible in the names alone. Every colour is a cool hue with something quiet folded in — dusty, soft, slate, denim — and the two sides of the list balance each other without either one dominating.

Conventionally avoided

  • Black — its weight overwhelms a medium-depth, soft-chroma season and imposes a contrast the palette does not use.
  • Golden browns — warm where this season is cool.
  • Orange — the plainest expression of a warm undertone, and so the plainest mismatch with the cool axis.

Shared borders

Most of this wardrobe overlaps with the seasons next door. That is not a flaw in the system; it is how a continuum behaves when you cut it into twelve. The finder shows its point spread precisely so you can see how close the neighbouring seasons came — a narrow margin is information, not an error.
