Where the palettes come from

The season grid – which of the twelve is cool or warm, light or deep, bright or soft –
was written twice by independent authors and agreed completely: forty-eight fields, no
exceptions. The palettes were harder, exactly as they should be: candidate colours were
judged blind by two more independent readings, and only colours BOTH judges accepted made a
page. The judging itself was then audited with planted decoys – a mustard slipped in among
the Bright Winter candidates, an icy pink among the Dark Autumns – and all twenty-four
decoys were caught. A judging round that accepts everything proves nothing; ours can say
no, so its yes means something.

What the finder honestly cannot do

A questionnaire reads observations, not fabric against your skin. The tests it uses –
veins, metals, whites, sun – are the trade’s own conventions and every one of them has
exceptions, which is why the result screen shows the full point spread and calls a near-tie
what it is: a boundary. Neighbouring seasons share most of their palette; when the finder
says you sit between two, read both and trust the mirror over the label.
