The Dark Autumn Palette

Take the warm, soft autumn recipe and move one axis: depth. Dark Autumn keeps a warm undertone and a soft chroma, but its depth reads deep, and gold remains its metal. Some schools call this season Deep Autumn — two names, one description.

The palette

Browns carry the verified list. Chocolate brown, dark chocolate and mahogany form its spine; forest green and olive supply the greens; burnt orange and tomato red are the two entries with fire in them. The names themselves lean dark — chocolate, mahogany, forest, burnt — which is the depth axis speaking through the vocabulary.

Read the avoid list against the axes and it explains itself. Cool grays and cool pinks announce their problem in the first word: coolness, set against a warm undertone. Icy pastels and light pastels sit at the pale end of the depth scale this season has left behind, and pure white is that paleness taken to its limit.
